Ice dancing legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, along with Dutch football coach Sarina Wiegman, have been honoured in the New Year Honours list.

Torvill and Dean, who famously won gold at the 1984 Winter Olympics with their iconic Bolero routine, have been awarded CBEs for their services to ice dancing and charity work.

Wiegman, who led the Netherlands women’s national team to victory in the European Championships in 2017 and a runners-up finish in the World Cup in 2019, has been made an OBE.

The trio expressed their gratitude and excitement at receiving such prestigious honours, with Torvill and Dean calling it a “humbling experience”.

Wiegman, who is set to take charge of the England women’s national team later this year, said she was “honoured and grateful” for the recognition.

The New Year Honours list also included awards for several other prominent figures in sports, entertainment, and charity work, highlighting their significant contributions to their respective fields.

Overall, it was a momentous occasion for Torvill, Dean, and Wiegman, as they join a long list of distinguished individuals who have been recognised for their outstanding achievements and dedication to their craft.

As they celebrate this incredible achievement, one can only imagine the impact that their influence will continue to have on future generations in their respective industries.
